The unintended expat blogger behind MildHollowCraft

Hello, I'm Sophie
I work as a project manager. I’m a parent. I’m an expat living in Zurich, Switzerland.
A few years back I moved here with my family. What began as a temporary assignment gradually became a new chapter of life abroad.
How It Started
Relocating to Switzerland wasn't part of the long-range plan. Like many expatriate moves, it began as a job opportunity and soon grew into something much larger.
The first months were demanding — new systems, new routines, new expectations. Everyday tasks felt more complicated than they should.
The Adjustment Period
There was culture shock, doubt, and plenty of hands-on learning. Over time, routines began to settle in. We found places that suited us, met other families, and started crafting something that felt steady.
Why I Built MildHollowCraft
Most online information was either corporate relocation guidance or shallow tourism content. What was missing was an honest, everyday family viewpoint.
This site aims to fill that gap — practical guidance grounded in real life in Switzerland.
What this site stands for (and what it doesn’t)
This site is:
- Hands-on insights from living in Switzerland
- Centered on family life and everyday realities
- Updated whenever something genuinely changes
This site isn’t:
- A resource from a tourism authority
- A platform for sponsored reviews
- Just another generic travel blog
Looking Ahead
Our stay in Switzerland goes on, and so does the learning process. As long as the information remains useful, I’ll continue documenting what we discover.
If you have questions about family life in Zurich or anywhere in Switzerland, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Cheers,
Sophie
